The Plant Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering and is based out of our Seabrook, New Jersey location. This individual will be responsible for:

Plant engineer must demonstrate knowledge in mechanical and civil engineering principles, practices and methods, environmental regulations, engineering project management methods, workplace safety, budgeting, employee supervision and personnel management.

A plant engineer must be flexible and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.  He or she should be competent in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and smaller projects, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

This career requires analytical and mathematical skills, quick thinking, and a solid understanding of the main principles of engineering, construction, and architecture.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

The tasks of a Plant Engineer are numerous and varied.  Each project has different specifications, goals, environmental conditions, and financial considerations.  Below is a list of general job duties of a Plant Engineer, though these will vary depending on the specific project.

  • Reviews project plans and proposals, then works with management to develop project objectives.  Identifies project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project.  Calculates time frames and sequences the stages of the project.
  • Prepares and distributes a description and timeline of the project.
  • Maintaining engineering files and drawings.
  • Studies product design, customer requirements performance standards, then determines project specifications.  Presents cost estimates and performance standards.  Conducts tests assuring safe and satisfactory product performance.
  • Reviews contractor bids; interviews and assigns personnel to specific phases and elements of the project.  Through project coordination meetings and other forms of communication, oversees and coordinates the technical aspects of the project.
  • Prepares status reports and regularly monitors budgets, contractors and schedules.  Allocates project resources appropriately; approves expenditures; employee contractor contracts.  Keeps an accurate record and electronic data base of all elements of the projects.
  • Presents procedures, rules and regulations to those involved in the project; maintains a safe, clean and productive environment through enforcing procedures.  Maintains project integrity and reputation through compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Maintain an efficient and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Ensure compliance to all state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor all capital improvement projects and organize various performance appraisals and recommend training programs as per requirement.
  • Perform regular audit on all safety control programs.
  • Prepare reports and ensure compliance to all state and federal laws.
  • Collaborate with various departments to maintain mechanical integrity of all plant programs.
  • Administer all activities and assist in manufacturing of all new products and recommend improvements to existing products.
  • Analyze all equipment requirements and assist in requisition of equipment.
  • Review and recommend improvements of all SOP procedures and perform troubleshoot on all plant activities and resolve all issues and assist facilities manager to implement all changes.
  • Validate all systems and prepare required documents for all installations.
  • Provide an efficient interface with all automation and validation processes and provide training to all as needed.
  • Provide an efficient interface with engineering department to evaluate all upcoming capital projects and analyze and obtain required feedback for all equipment and layouts.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

 

Requirements Analysis, Design Skills, Project Management, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Process Improvement, Technical Understanding, Documentation Skills, Safety Management, Supervision, CAD, CAD/CAM Circuit Design.

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the food/beverage industry
  • Experience in Manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience in report writing
  • Must have excellent time management skills and be able to work on projects with little direction
  • Have a Professional Engineer (PE designation), or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to direct, coach and train others.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task
  • Proven organizational skills

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

 

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office setting; driving a motor vehicle and occasionally working in the field.

 

FREQUENT: sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials.

 

OCCASIONAL: squatting, kneeling, reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing 20 – 35 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.

 

VISION: Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction.

 

HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Must be able to work with other Managers, Supervisors, and Hourly personnel, and help them with projects
  • Monitor contractor productivity and provide constructive feedback; implementing enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications.
